Joan Leiman is Chief of Staff to the President and CEO of New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Healthcare System. Prior to assuming this position in February 2001, she served 16 years as Executive Deputy Vice President for the Health Sciences at Columbia University. As a senior officer of the University, she was responsible for administration of the College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Health Sciences Division of the University. From 1966 to 1973 she held several positions in New York City government including Assistant Budget Director and Special Assistant to the Mayor. Along with a number of colleagues, she established the Fred Hayes Prize, which is awarded annually to emerging leaders in New York City government who have made innovative contributions to public service. The award honors the memory and the work of the late Frederick OReilly Hayes, former Budget Director of the City of New York.
